Question: My 4Wheel drive worked fine for the last few days.

My 4 wheel drive worked fine intill yesterday when I stopped at a gas station. When I went to leave I started spinning in the snow. I stopped, pulled transfer case shifter into 4 hi and started to take off. back tires started spinning but when front differential tried to engage I heard a thump and now it won't go into 4 wheel drive. Is yhis something that is problematic with this vehicle? Where should I start looking to make repairs? Thanks
