Question: What would cause my car to flood itself at startup?

After my car sits overnight, when trying to start it for the first time, it floods itself while cranking to the point that it won't quite take off. I knew if I shut off the fuel to the cylinders, it would probably clean itself out and start. I found the injector fuse, pulled it out. Cranked the engine over, it started, ran for a second, and died. Put fuse back in, cranked engine over, it started, ran rough for a second, then ran normally. For the rest of the day, it starts and runs normally. Any ideas?
