If you thought we’d lost out when Honda released the NSX Type-R in Japan back in 2002, consider yourself in luck. Honda tuner Spoon has decided to begin converting left-hand drive NSX models to full Japanese Type R spec. Add-ons include a carbon fiber rear spoiler, hood vent, harder suspension, under body aero panels, slotted brakes, stiffer sway bars and loads lightweight components. Once the upgrades are all said and done, the NSX-R weighs in at a very slim 2,800 lbs. Richard Simmons would be proud.
Also included in the package are an upgraded ECU, lightweight wheels and a shorter final gear, all of which add up to a 0-60 time of around 4.5 seconds. Spoon will be bringing a 600 horsepower twin-turbo NSX to the US to serve as a teaser for automotive events before they begin converting cars, but consider us already sold. The 2011 NSX no longer seems like such a wait.
