The Ford F-150 holds the crown for being the best-selling vehicle in America—a distinction that was probably in jeopardy thanks to ever-increasing gas prices. We say “was” because FoMoCo has gone to great lengths to up its hauler’s fuel economy. A new six-speed automatic transmission that replaces the archaic four-speed auto and new valve technology are largely responsible for the eight percent jump. The two-wheel drive version of the truck is good for 15 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, and a new SFE F-150 should hit 21 mpg highway, all without a tonneau cover. Coupled with the highest towing capacity in its class and fuel economy that’s on par with every other contender out there, this will be one tough truck to beat. [Autoblog]
