Hyundai Developing Clean Diesel

November 4th, 2008 · No Comments

And not just any diesel. This oil-burner is designed specifically to tackle both the German and the French competition. How does it do it? For starters, the engine meets all European emission standards and is available as a turbocharged 2.0 or 2.2-liter. With the emissions out of the way, all that’s left is the power department, which the Hyundai mill takes without a problem. The 2.0 manages a full 11 more horsepower and 31 more lb-ft of torque than it’s Audi counterpart at 181 hp and 289 lb-ft of torque.

The 2.2-liter engine boasts respectable numbers as well, with 197 horses and 321 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai says the new motors will find their way into SUV’s and sedans in Europe soon. Unfortunately, emission standards here in the U.S. will likely keep the motors from coming to our shores, at least for the time being. [Source: Autoblog]
