In an effort to stabilize itself, General Motors has agreed to sell Saab Automobile to Swedish super car manufacturer, Koenigsegg. The super car company makes around 18 cars a year and only employs 45 people. There are doubts as to whether it be able to handle the management of Saab, which sold almost 100,000 cars last year and has upwards of 3,400 workers.
Saab has been a burden on the already struggling General Motors by not turning a profit in several years, and the move is another effort to trim the company’s holdings. There are no reported plans to give Saab an extreme makeover, and GM is to keep providing the architecture and the drivetrain to these cars for the time being. If we’re not going to be seeing a Saab emblem on a super car anytime soon, here’s hoping some of the performance aspects trickle down to the Saab brand. [Source: BBC News]
