"I have a 2004 Ford Explorer Limited. This car has to have a V8 engine which I do have. The V6 is definitely under powered. Two main complaints, the wheels that came with my limited were chrome covered thus in New England with the snow we have, the chrome has peeled horribly and I have to replace the wheels. Will be going with a basic steel wheel. Second, the rear hatch has flaws. First the top hinges that hold the rear glass to the door frame rust and rot out. I had this happen to me on one side. Opened the glass hatch only one day and the hinge snapped, thus the glass gashed me in the head and this window is heavy to say the least plus the hydraulic window lifts don't work when the hinges are not supporting the glass. A big ouch to say the least. Secondly, below the glass is the Ford Emblem. This is a plastic cover right below the window on the door. This area is noted to crack on ALL Ford Explorers of this current year. I have researched this and Ford has recalled previous years and or made assistance to consumers for replacement of this plastic but NOT the 2004. As you are driving down the road, MOST of these vehicles of this year are all cracked. Noticed primarily around the Ford Emblem. To me, the biggest disappointment is the chrome wheels. Now that I have to replace them this is a huge expense and if I don't my tires leak air constantly especially in the cold replacing air every two to three days.Shame on Ford for NOT recalling rims, plastic piece below rear glass window and not warning consumers of the hinges snapping due to rust and corrosion."
