Questions & Answers

Mechanic Q: Really Rough Idle?

1989 chevy s10 blazer 2wd. replaced the oxygen sensor, spark plugs, distributor cap, spark plug wires, EGR valve looks fine, cleaned out the fuel injector, replaced the wires for the injector, plugged up the brake booster vacuum lines so that it doesn't cut out when braking fast, replaced the muffler. I have done so much trying to figure out the problem, I've almost exhausted all possibilities I can think of save for burned valve or worn camshaft. Is there anything I can do personally to see if these are not the problems without taking the engine out?

A: Really Rough Idle?

I did the compression test when I changed out the spark plugs, all of them were fine except one which was slightly low but didn't seem to be causing the problem. I'll check the Intake Manifold tomorrow and get back on that.

Mechanic Q: My reverse lights only work when the Gear shift is in a certain position?

My 1989 Chevy S-10 Blazer 2WD Auto's reverse lights only work when the Gear shift is in a certain position. I've tried looking in my Hayes on how to fix it, it shows where the the Neutral safety and back-up switch in the pic but not what holds it onto the steering column jacket. what I need to know is, how do I adjust the switch assembly so it works when it's in reverse and not on one point while shifting to reverse. The steering wheel shakes a lot, even for an adjustable it shakes more than it should. That's another problem I'd like to fix. Anyone? I need my truck inspected and this and the worn out tires are the only things holding up[ the show.
