Q: "Bucking" car?

The car "bucks" when the accelerator is pressed (slightly) from a stopped position (red light, stop sign, etc.). It's as if the transmission slips or something is not catching correctly. I'm not very knowledgable about cars--and any/all help is valued. Thank you.
