A: Replaced timing bet but none of the sprockets would move?

Hi Elizabeth Tried to turn the sprockets and succeeded with the two valve sprockets on top. The cam shaft would only move about 40 degrees. it hit a blockage in both directions There was no way to line up the timing mark on it. I guess this means something broke! lol This is FAR beyond my abilities. I appreciate all your advice Have to see what I can sell it for if someone wants to rebuild it or just tear it apart. Thank you again! Rick

A: Replaced timing bet but none of the sprockets would move?

OK! Of course it means removing the timing belt! LOL I think I read that it should only be turned clockwise. Which I guess is the normal direction. I was afraid to try it and break something I appreciate your help

A: Replaced timing bet but none of the sprockets would move?

Hi The old timing belt had lost a section of teeth. When I took the old one off none of the 3 gears would move at all. The top two seemed to still be in line but the bottom one was off When it started to have trouble, I had just started it and heard a weird flapping sound, I opened the hood and couldn't tell where it was coming from. Then the engine quit and when I tried to start it the starter engaged but the engine wouldn't turn at all. Battery is fully charged. After installing the new belt the engine still would not turn at all.

Mechanic Q: What would make it seize up??

Thanks for your help Timing belt is still there. Almost afraid to ask, what would make the flapping noise and then make the engine seize?
