Mechanic Q: How to remove and install a cigarette lighter housing in the dash?

I cannot figure out a way to remove the cigarette lighter housing in the dash of our 2000 Cavalier. I have a new dash panel (black) and want to put the old lighter housing in it. The lighter housing doesn't unscrew & the small plastic tabs on the sides of the housing don't push in because of the metal barrel housing. I could break it out, but would rather remove it normally. Please help!

A: How to remove and install a cigarette lighter housing in the dash?

I wish we could upload photos of what we have questions about. That would make things much easier & save a ton of words. The base on this lighter doesn't turn (unscrew) like older model lighters do, factory or aftermarket. There are no threaded areas. The ceramic part may be able to turn off from the metal barrel, but that wouldn't separate the lighter from the plastic cluster trim plate. Thanks for your efforts in helping me. Very much appreciated! -Greg C.

Q: How to remove & replace the cigarette lighter housing in a 2000 Cavalier??

I cannot figure out a way to remove & replace the cigarette lighter housing in the dash of our 2000 Cavalier. I have a new plastic dash panel (black) and want to put the old lighter housing in it. The lighter housing doesn't unscrew & the small plastic tabs on the sides of the plastic trim ring don't push in because of the metal barrel inside the plastic trim ring. I could break it out, but would rather remove it normally. Older style lighter housings unscrew, then the two pieces separate easily. Chevy garage may help or a body shop, but this is a free service & am trying to save $$$. Please help!

Mechanic Q: How to replace the serpentine belt on our 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 4-cyl.?

It looks difficult to replace the serpentine belt on this car because the upper motor mount is in the way. Does it have to be removed or can I take off the right front tire & go in thru. the wheelwell to loosen the tensioner & take off the belt. I don't have room to use my belt remover tool from up above, as the motor mount doesn't allow room for the arm of the tool to move. Please help with your expert advice. Thanks!!
