Questions & Answers

A: How to remove and install a cigarette lighter housing in the dash?

I wish we could upload photos of what we have questions about. That would make things much easier & save a ton of words. The base on this lighter doesn't turn (unscrew) like older model lighters do, factory or aftermarket. There are no threaded areas. The ceramic part may be able to turn off from the metal barrel, but that wouldn't separate the lighter from the plastic cluster trim plate. Thanks for your efforts in helping me. Very much appreciated! -Greg C.

Mechanic Q: How to remove and install a cigarette lighter housing in the dash?

I cannot figure out a way to remove the cigarette lighter housing in the dash of our 2000 Cavalier. I have a new dash panel (black) and want to put the old lighter housing in it. The lighter housing doesn't unscrew & the small plastic tabs on the sides of the housing don't push in because of the metal barrel housing. I could break it out, but would rather remove it normally. Please help!

Q: How to remove & replace the cigarette lighter housing in a 2000 Cavalier??

I cannot figure out a way to remove & replace the cigarette lighter housing in the dash of our 2000 Cavalier. I have a new plastic dash panel (black) and want to put the old lighter housing in it. The lighter housing doesn't unscrew & the small plastic tabs on the sides of the plastic trim ring don't push in because of the metal barrel inside the plastic trim ring. I could break it out, but would rather remove it normally. Older style lighter housings unscrew, then the two pieces separate easily. Chevy garage may help or a body shop, but this is a free service & am trying to save $$$. Please help!

A: How to replace the serpentine belt on our 2000 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L 4-cyl.?

Thanks for the response back, Tyler. I have this tool & the problem I have is having enough room to move the arm of the wrench & take the tension off the belt to be removed. I seen a youtube video that showed the upper motor mount and coolant recovery tank being removed to gain access to the tensioner & belt. My mechanic thought one could get access by removing the pass. side right front tire & wheel & plastic shields in the fenderwell. Chevy should've kept the same design as on my 90 Cavalier. -Greg
