Mechanic Q: Oil Change for vw passat TDI 2013?

Is there any way to ensure a proper oil change has been done? The oil filter is very hard to get to as is the drain plug. I'm assuming one way to extract the oil is for a top drain to be done. Still probably leaves a little sludge in pan. What do you think?
