Question: 02 Civic Misfire All Four Cylinders URGENT

Out of nowhere, yesterday car started to show flashing CEL.
- Code reading: P0 codes for all 4 cylinders, plus the Random Multiple Cylinder Misfire code
- Car shaky when idle
- Exhaust smells different

Changed spark plugs, had a recent oil change. Latest problem was with overheating but that seems to have been solved with a new thermostat. There was a code p1457 (exhaust system leak?) but that seems to have gone away.

I'm on a really low budget and need to get back to work ASAP :(

If you changed the plugs and it still is misfiring on all cylinders I would have the compression tested. To make sure the engine is good and that the head gasket is not bad. The other thing that goes on your car is the distributor. They are common for this problem.

Thank you. I will keep these other possibilities in mind for the future. It came out to be the ignition coils, and after replacing them the problem was all fixed. However, I now have a P0420 "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold" code, which I dread and think that I have damaged the cat as a result of driving while having the CEL on. Is this serious?

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
