Question: 1972 Olds 442 convertible top not work

went up and down once. then would not go back down again but when i push switch to bring top up you could hear motor running but no movement

Probably an internal failure of the mechanism or a broken linkage etc. You'll need to have it inspected by an experienced technician. He should be able to determine the point of failure for you and give you an estimate. It could be a simple as putting something back on track or an adjustment, or you might need some new components.
