Question: 1978 GMC SIERRA

Started truck up today (it had been sitting for a while) Started up and idled for 4 or 5 minutes. When I went to Shift into reverse there was no engagement or clunck or anything (It leaks tranny fluid so may be dry) shifted into D with no clunk or engagement either. I was trying to figure out what was going on with that when a few seconds later car then stalled. Would not restart. Turns over and all that just no start. Smells like gas everywhere too. There is gas (I think) liquid in the engine bay itself too. Could it have flooded ? Do you think when I shifted it it never shifted back to park so won't start as it isn't in park ?
