Question: 1985 dodge ram with automatic transmission

starts easy, runs great until i put it in reverse, then i back up about 10 feet and then it completely shuts down for a few seconds and then the power comes back on and it starts right up again. it seems to do this more often when the weather is cold or wet. any ideas????

Does it act exactly the same if you need to put it in Drive instead of Reverse? If so, then it could be a low idle when cold (which is choke adjustment or carb setting), or a vacuum leak going to the transmission.

A thorough tune-up should cover those bases, but if you're not due for one the problem can be diagnosed specifically.
