Question: 2 yrs old and Pistons blown?

I was merging on the freeway. Then i hear clicking sounds my check engine light came on. I pulled over had my car towed to the dealership. They said i was in second gear and i reved to fast. Which cause the pistons to blow. They said it might not be covered by warranty. Dont this vehicle have rev limiters to prevent that from happening?

Rev limiters can only protect the engine under normal driving conditions. It is very possible to power shift and miss a gear. That would over rev the engine and possibly damage it.
