Question: 77 280z 2+2 with L28 injected will start cold but after a few min. starts to smoke and dies .

some times will after a while will start and run fine but idles a little high

Maybe a failure of one of the sensors like the throttle switches or the airflow meter etc.

Hard to say for sure. A mechanic with experience in older fuel injection could probably diagnose this for you.
