Question: ABS/Brake lights

1999 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2/V8 About a year ago on about one out of every five starts the brake light and ABS light will come on and stay on. However my truck does not have an ABS system. There has been no noticeable difference in braking and if I turn the engine off and turn it back on the lights will not come back on. Any Ideas about about what it could be? Thank you very much for your time and expertise.

How do you know you don't have ABS? If you didn't have ABS, you shouldn't have an ABS light, so that is a little confusing. If you haven't had the system scanned for codes, you should do that. I am guessing that you do have ABS and there is a fault in the system, turning on the dash lights.

If the ABS light is on, the system is disabled. In that case, your regular brakes will work normally and it will not affect your engine at all.
