Question: antilock light stays on

It's been this way for several years & doesn't seem to affect braking by antilock mechanism.
Is this just an "idiot" light problem or what can I check for something more specific?

When the light is on, anti-lock brakes won't work... your normal brakes will. This problem could be due to a bad or dirty wheel speed sensor, ABS module or even a bad ABS pump.

I'll follow up on your suggestions, but I've tested the ABS in a safe area by forcefully applying the brakes --- there is the typical shuddering of the brake pedal that accompanies ABS & skid is controlled without the pumping of brakes that are necessary when there is no ABS.

Thank you for the informative suggestions.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
