Question: Can glass from the rear window breaking cause a retractable hard top to break and get scratched.

The dealership states u have to open the top to fix the window which isn't true i looked it up in the Nissan Handbook. Also how can it break if there are sensors all over the top to prevent malfunction. How does the top scratch itself?

Which handbook are you looking in? Maybe you should show that to the dealer in question.

Sounds like the broken glass got in the mechanism and jammed/broke it. Broken glass will scratch the top if it's in the mechanism for sure.
