Question: Can the driver side folding mirror be fixed?

Mechanics,

I know this is not a huge problem but I am particular about my vehicles and I like for things to work properly. I have the side mirrors that automatically fold in when you press the button on the driver side door. The passenger side mirror folds in just fine but the driver side mirror does not. I can hear the motor running inside the mirror and what sounds like gears grinding but it does not fold in. I took it to the dealership for repair and they said the entire side mirror would need to be replace for about $630. I do not have the know-how but do you believe it would be possible for a mechanic to somehow repair the side mirror so it will fold in for much less than $630?

I appreciate your help!! I have just discovered this Web site and I am really enjoying it.

Thanks again,
Matt

Repairing plastic gears on a sealed unit is not recommended, but you can try to find a used part... eBay/online or a junkyard. Make sure you've got the right color before you order anything.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
