Question: Can the key fob be re-programmed?

Key fob no longer locks or unlocks the doors but it will still remotely start the vehicle (usually) and unlock the trunk. i have changed the battery in the fob but that made no difference.

Yes they can, but you need a factory scantool to do it. so you would need to take it to the dealer. and from your description, I think your key Fobs may be defective, so reprogramming may not help.

The fobs are likley defective but is there a not too expensive scan tool on the market that I could use to program a new fob?

Probably not. Most of the time you need a factory scantool, but reprogramming isn't usually very expensive.

Actually at my local Chevy Dealership it's "about $105", and that's not including a new fob. I think that's just a bit ridiculous considering the actual labor involved. Anyway, thanks for your response and have a good one.
