Question: Can you fix my low city mileage problem?

My car continues to produce below expectations city mileage. It is running 27 mpg at best. I've had it tweaked twice with no improvement. A friend of mine with a Prius 2 years older with more mileage is getting mpgs in the upper 30s with comparable driving to me. I'm really disappointed with this at the moment.

Firstly, you really can't compare different year vehicles, even if they are the same model. The electronics and software differences between them make them basically completely different cars; They just look the same on the outside.

Driver habits can definitely change mileage, so maybe you and your friend should swap cars for a week to see if his goes down and yours goes up in the different vehicles. It isn't a perfect test due to being different years, but if they change, it could be how each of your drive and/or where you drive.

You can also take it into Toyota to have the latest computer eprom flashed into the PCM and have the fuel trim adaptives rest. Both of those things can help milage if the vehicle has learned to run richer than it needs to.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
