Question: car overheating

Hi I have a 2003 buick century. The water pump was bad on it so I replaced it. Prior to replacing the water pump my heat went out. It only blew cold air. After the water pump was fixed the heat worked but a day or two later went out. Now my car is over heating bad. I cannot drive down the road without it over heating. I checked to see if the head gaskets were blown and they are not. I bought a new thermostat thinkinking that was the problem. Is it?

The thermostat is the most likely cause. It is also possible there is a restriction in the system since your heater isn't working. I would replace the t-stat and flush the cooling system before I went much further. It may be all you need to do.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
