Question: car starts to overheat after 25 miles of highway driving

My therostat went after about 100 miles on the freeway. I replaced the thermostat and now it starts to overheat after about 25 miles of highway driving. It also loses about a half gallon of coolant a week in city driving. I average 7 miles each way to work in city trafic.
