Question: Car will not move forward when I let off gas.

I have a 2011 VW Jetta sedan and when I come to a stop sometimes, usually after getting off the highway, the car will feel like it's trying to take off and not actually move. When I let off the gas it doesn't move forward and then I give it gas and it doesn't move forward. I have to put it in park to make it stop misbehaving and then put it back into drive for it to act normal. Any ideas?

When you say it won't move, do you mean that the engine will rev up and the transmission doesn't seem to engage (called a 'slipping transmission') or does the engine stumble or hesitate?
