Question: car's rpms car run high when driving and in park and my brakes have to be pushed to floor to stop

This morning my fiance noticed the rpms were running high on his car while he was driving as well as parked. When he braked his had to push the pedal to the floor to stop. Both of these problems started at the same time this morning.
