Question: Check Engine Light

This is the second time I have the check engine light on. The very first time, I believe it was my fault because I didn't tighten up the gas cap correctly, but it didn't dissapear right away after I adjusted it. It took 2-3 days to dissapear, I did take it to Autozone and they said it might have something to do with the O2s, but to give it some time. The second time, a week later, I was driving up a hill and noticed the heavy sound my car was making when I hit the gas, I took it to Autozone and they gave it a Code p0420, the muffler or exhaust sounds really heavy, also when I hit the gas i seem to hear a light buzzing sound. Take it back to the dealer?

The code p0420 could be caused by a couple different things. The main causes are usually one of the O2 sensors (and your vehicle has more than one) and another is the catalytic converter. You need to take it to a shop that can test those parts before replacing anything. You can take it to the dealership, they will probably charge you more for the work than an independent shop.
