Question: Check Engine Soon Light

I have 142,000 miles on my Lincoln Navigatore. My check engine soon light has come on and I have noticed that my truck is idling low. I changed my pcv valve and hoses connected to the pcv valve. My truck still idles low when I put the vehicle in drive and the AC is running. Is this an indication that the oxygen sensors are bad?

You need to have the codes read with any OBD-II reader. Most auto parts stores offer this as a free service. Get the codes and go from there. Otherwise you are just guessing...

Funny thing is, I went to Advanced Auto to have them do this and the reader would not power up from my vehicle. They tried the same reader in another vehicle and it came on. Could this be a fuse?

Go ahead and check the fuses but it's probably a wiring issue. Make sure the pins in the obdII connector aren't pushed out and no wires are cut etc.

It was in fact the fuse to the cigarette lighter and odbII. The codes were:

P0171 Bank 1

P0174 Bank 2

It is running lean. Could it be a vacuum leak or oxygen sensors? If oxygen sensors which ones? I was told there were about five on my model.

Could be a vacuum leak for sure. Hard to say which o2 sensors. check the output voltage from them with a multimeter against spec to know if they are good or bad

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman, DriverSide Contributor For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice th ...
