Question: chevy tahoe 2001 4x4

My 01 Chevy tahoe is having a problem with the 4x4 transfer case gear seems to be slipping but I'm not sure exactly if that's even it. It's riding rough in 4 hi not sure what it is.

Does it feel like it's slipping in 2wd or 4wd lo? Is it riding rough in anything but 4hi? Is it rough in all gears of 4hi? What do you mean by 'rough'? Is the idle smooth? Is there a problem accelerating or maintaining rpms? Is it different when the engine is cold or warm?
