Question: Clunking sound from front drivers side.

I've got a 2000 Chevy Blazer S10 4.3L V.6 (AT) 2WD 2 Door. When I leave in the morning I hear/feel a clunk from front driver side when i first leave my driveway. It happens whether im in neutral coasting down my driveway or in reverse. Also if i go slow enough out my driveway, it wont happen until I start moving down the street at about 4 mph whether I'm coasting in neutral or put it in drive. The clunk only happens once and wont happen again until i let is sit for a good 20 min. Doesnt happen at stop lights. And doesnt happen while turning. Happens every morning when i leave and every afternoon when i leave work. Occurs exactly when i reach about 3-4 mph whether coasting in neutral or in drive. Please help.

Have the ball joints and sway bar ends checked. And make sure you eliminate this (kind of a long shot, but good to know about):

Thank you for the reply Elizabeth K. Unfortunately the ball joints and sway bar ends checked out fine. Something new occured recently after it rained all night. The next morning I went to leave and heard a grinding sound very similar to the clunk as i began to leave at about 2-3 mph. The noise came from the same spot (front drivers side) and when i tapped the brakes it stopped grinding. Its the same noise as the clunk just multiple clunks, if that makes sense. I'm thinking the problem might be the brakes. In about a week I'll have the brakes checked out. What do you think i should tell the mechanic? One other thing that might help, when i hear/feel the clunk in the brake pedal, the headlights also go dim for a split second.

I think it's important to point out to the mechanic that tapping on the brakes stops the noise--that is a strong indication that the problem is the brakes. But if the headlights go dim, then have the charging system tested, as well as the battery connections for a possible loose connection.

so i found out that the clunk sound was coming for the abs system. when i pulled the abs fuse, the clunk in the brake pedal doesn't occur. Come to find out it was the abs engaging. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. I'm stumped.

The procedure is to have the system scanned for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Further diagnosis can go from there.
