Question: Could my transmission be going out?

transmission fluid is brown and smells burnt, I hear a squeaking sound when I drive in reverse only mainly in the mornings, I have not had any check engine lights on yet. I just drove 1600 miles crosscountry

The first step is to get a transmission service (fluid and filter). A good shop will be able to provide some insight into tranny wear by what they see in the process. If you're not experiencing problems shifting, it may be OK (but definitely overdue for a service).
