Question: dead car battery

batter is 3 years old- so i added water to a dead battery- then i put it on a battery charger- and the water started to seep out from the caps- whats up with that?

Most batteries made today are maintenance free, you never need to add water. So you may have overfilled it--it should only go up to the bottom of the tube that you see if you look down the holes.

If the water level is correct, the problem may be the alternator is overcharging the battery. You'll need to measure the output with a voltmeter under load to test--shouldn't go over 14.7 or so. If it gets over 15volts, it's definitely bad.
