Question: Do I need a transmission

My 2006 Grand Prix won't change gears while in drive. There is a noise under the hood while driving. Sounds like a motor cycle or the sound that a hole in the muffler makes.

First, check the level and condition of the ATF. If the level is low, top it off. If the fluid is burnt or has metallic particles in it, have the transmission serviced. If the fluid is OK, you'll need to have an inspection of the transmission to know more.
