Question: Do i need fuel detergent?

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 18,000 miles. Today I'll need to fill up with gas and I was thinking about purchasing a fuel detergent. Is their a certain type I should buy for my car? If so, should I add it before or after I refuel?

I don't recommend additives usually unless you use cheap gas all the time.

Most name brand fuels have cleaning agents in them that keep the injectors clean. If you really want to do it, go spend $8 at your autoparts store and buy a bottle of techron (same stuff Chevron puts in their gas) and dump it in a full tank of gas. Run it close to empty before refueling. The injection treatments shops sell are fine and they won't hurt anything, but I'm not convinced you get a lot for your money.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
