Question: do I need to replace an oil pan when installing a used engine?

car overheated due to no oil and need a new engine. Mechanic says that I need to get a new oil pan as well. I bought a used engine from a junk yard, doesn't an oil pan usually come with the engine?

Yes, but it is possible the used engine 's pan is damaged. check with your mechanic to see why it needs to be replaced. Some pans can have the hole for the dipstick on either side as well. It could be the engine is from a compatible vehicle, but the pan is incorrect for your vehicle.
