Question: Engine cuts off while at a stop

For about six months, my car has idled roughly (the engine is choppy) while stopped. About a month ago while stopped the engine just cut off, but I was able to re-start immediately. Two days ago while stopped, the engine cut off again. I pulled the car over, and after about 20 minutes was able to start it again, and experienced no further issues. Yesterday the engine cut off while I was driving. Again, after pulling to the side of the road and waiting 20 minutes, I was able to start it again and reach my destination without trouble. Any thoughts?
