Question: engine is running rich

Hi there this car is running rich /too mauch fuel.
Black smoke out the tail pipe+idle surges up and down.
No check engine light +checked all vacum lines

When was your last tune-up, and what got replaced in it? If it wasn't within the past year, start with that.

Even if there is no check engine light, have the system scanned for codes. Find out what the oxygen (o2) sensor is reading, and how many crosscounts there are. A lazy o2 sensor will not set a code and will cause that problem. But so will a dirty air filter, so don't replace anything without testing it first.
