Question: Engine stalls when exiting the highway

This problem started about 15 months after we bought the van. At first we thought it was a fluke, but 6 months later took it to the dealer. They couldn't figure anything out. Now that my warranty has just run out, we took it to our regular mechanic. He diagnosed it to be the torque converter not disengaging when slowing down from highway speeds. It has also happened when we've been on the highway for a while, then traffic slows us to stop and go traffic. We can hear the engine running really high, then the engine stalls. After 3 days, the dealer still says that they cannot reproduce the problem and have no idea what I'm talking about. Frustrated!!!

There was a recall for ignition switch problems causing stalling on the 2010, so check with the dealer that you don't fall in that category.

If your mechanic has diagnosed the problem as the torque converter clutch not disengaging, that is a likely scenario. Sometimes shops are not motivated enough to look deeply enough for problems, so approaching their competitors is often helpful. The competition for dealerships is usually the Chrysler dealer in a neighboring town. Give them a call and explain your situation, they may be willing to go the extra mile to make the first dealership look bad.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
