Question: Gas Mileage 1997 Saturn

I have a 1997 Saturn SL2 with 136K miles and get low 20s city and low to mid-30s on the highway. I recently read about carbon cleaning. Is this worth doing to try and increase the gas mileage? If it is what should I expect to pay a mechanic to do this and how much should I expect the mileage to improve? Thanks.

I have almost the same vehicle and my mileage is about the same as your. I rebuilt the motor about 70K miles ago and have always had the same mileage.

Carbon cleaning is a good idea if you are having dirvabilty issues or failing state emission tests, but it probably won't improve fuel economy very much (if at all)
