Question: Gas smell in the radiator

1963 Chevy C20. The radiator has a gas smell. The truck overheats some times. There is no smoke out the tailpipe, coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. The radiator was rebuilt, thermostat replaced and cap changed. I added a coolant recovery tank. Could this be a head gasket or intake manifold gasket? Would a block sealer work until I can get it fixed?

That does sound like a blown head gasket (and the cylinder head should be inspected for cracks and warpage once it's removed). Block sealer is not a good solution, and could get clogged up in the radiator if you use too much. You probably won't do much further damage if you keep driving it for a while, though it will obviously be underpowered.

It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
