Question: Has damage been done after driving with low oil?

This vehicle doesnt have an oil light. I drove it for a year without an oil change. The check gages light came on and there was a slight pinging. I wasnt sure what it was. A week later the pinging became bad...i noticed the oil pressure guage waz radical. I emediately put oil in it. I got an oil change the next day. It is running great now. Is there damage to the engine

You have absolutely shortened the life of the engine. This is the worst thing you can do to an engine!

Make sure to keep the fluids topped off and clean. Change the oil 5k or sooner.
