Question: Head Gasket repair question

I was told my head gasket has a small hole in it and water was getting into cyliner3 causing a misfire.
Cost to fix $1750.00

He said the Heads would have to be reworked at machine shop, once you take them off.
This site average cost for head gasket replacement is about $700.00 for this car.

Why the huge difference in cost? Is the guy at the shop i took the car to doing work that is not required?

If he is having the heads redone, that is probably the extra cost.

Most times you can just replace the gasket, but if it has high mileage, having the heads redone make sense. And you would want to have them checked to make sure they don't have cracks from the failure as well.
