Question: How do I know something is wrong with my CAT?

Can I pass state inspection with something wrong with it? How much should I expect to pay to repair it?

Usually the problem is detected when the oxygen sensors upstream and downstream have been tested and are working, and they indicate the catalytic converter is not functioning properly. If that's the case, it will not pass emissions. The price of the part varies, but you can look it up on an online parts store by year/make/model.
