Question: How do i tell what size of a belt i need without using power steering pulley?

i have a ford escort zx2 and my power steering went out about a month ago but i kept driving my car until eventually it built up enough tension to snap the pulley off of the power steering pump. and now i want to find out what size of a drive belt i will need if i were to just not connect it to the pulley at all and have no power steering so my alternator will charge my engine. thanks.

You'd have to take a piece of string and wrap it around the pulleys in the configuration you want, then measure the string..

I would not recommend driving without the power steering as you will have weakened steering capabilities and this could result in a possible safety issue while driving.
