Question: How long should it take to change the transmission screen and gasket?

The transmission sounds like it is slipping and shifting strangely, if at all. I fear it's a bigger problem, but you've got to start somewhere.

Check the fluid level. When was your last transmission service? Check that all vacuum/electrical lines to the transmission are properly connected.
