Question: How much should it cost to put in a new engine?

I broke a #6 Rod. Repair shop told me the engine was spotless on the inside and had no idea why the rod broke.

i am trying to get quotes about repair costs and folks are asking of I want a short block? Then estimates are all dependent on whatever else they have to replace beside the head. Hard to compare apples to apples.

Since car looked clean inside other than broken rod, I assume most other parts would be OK. What should this repair cost me and is a short block appropriate?

If you can afford it and plan on keeping the car for a lot longer, you might want to install a new long block. Otherwise install a short block and have the head checked. Replace all the seals etc.

A new short block is listed at about $2400, nearly 25 hours labor book time.
