Question: How much would it cost to do a tune up?

When i called the mechanic they said $62.99. then when we took the car to the mechanic they said $200.00 because they have to remove the intake valve or exhaust and the labor alone will take 3 or 4 hours... Is that true or a scam?

The definition of a tune up varies widely these days. Get an itemized list of exactly what is included with the 'tune up'. If it matches a 30k mile service (check the 'your service schedule' to see what that entails) you can check it against the 'repair cost calculator' link, or call the dealership to see what they are charging for it.

ohkay thanks! Also would you happen to know how much it would cost to repair the in tie rod? I was told $400 because of labor alone, is this true?! :-\

Check the labor costs using the 'repair cost calculator' link. The price will vary depending on the shop's hourly rate, but the 'flat rate' or time to do the job should be the same. And keep in mind that the shop probably also quoted you an alignment after the repair--which is necessary but may not show up in the cost calculator.

No the shop quoted me for each. so she said the whole total will be $400 for this and $400 for that.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
