Question: How to replace fuel pump 98 blazer?

A repair shop was trying to replace my fuel pump on my 98 blazer, and they broke the yoke on my vehicle. they said the driveshaft needed to be removed from the yoke to take out the gas tank. Said a bolt was rusted tight, and therefore when they tried to separate the yoke and shaft, the yoke broke. They said they would be willing to fix the yoke at cost. My questions are: Is breaking the yoke that much of a possibility or did they not know what they were doing? And is giving me the yoke repair at cost something I should accept? Is that reasonable?

If there was a lot of rust, damage to the yoke is very possible. And the drive shaft probably needs to be removed to drop the tank. If it was in my shop, I probably would have stopped the repair and notified you of the potential failure before taking it apart.

If they are offering to fix the drive shaft for their cost of the parts only (and no labor), you might want to do that. You could argue that they broke it, so they should replace it for free.

It depends on what your relationship is with the shop. If it was my shop, I probably would have offered the same thing as the only reason it is being removed is to fix your pump, and I can see how it is kind of like an extra part that needs replacement that was not on the original estimate. But again, I like to let my customers know so there aren't any surprises like this one.

Car Brakes: How Do You Know When to Change Them?

By Zach Bowman For those who suffer a daily commute through heavy traffic, your vehicle's braking system can bring thousands of pounds of metal, plastic and empty Starbucks cups to a stop hundreds of times before you get to work. It goes without saying that these pieces wear out, but they do so slowly, meaning you may not notice they need attention until ...
